The improvement of plant cultivation can be done by using the seeds of best varities and
hybrid as well as equal fertilization. One of hybrid paddies which are introduced to the
farmers is Intani and introduced in the level of breeding lines are H4 and H9, while nationally
best variety which is widely used by farmers is IR64. IR64 variety is the best variety of
lowland paddy which is commonly planted by farmers in Indonesia, especially in Lampung.
The use of SP-36 fertilizer as the source of P is commonly used because it can be relatively
easy to be foundthan others. However Sulfomag Plus fertilizer which is just recommended to
the farmers is not to be able to compete with SP-36 nor TSP, because the farmers can not
prove whether Sulfomag Plus is able to equal the potency of SP-36 and TSP as the source of P
in the lowland paddy plantation. Related to that, it was tried to give Sulfomag Plus fertilizer
to some varieties of hybrid paddy. This research was conducted in the research field of
Polinela, Bandar Lampung from June to September 2004.
From the result it can be concluded that: (a) the yield of hybrid paddy was higher variety of
IR-64, while 3 hybrid varieties (H4, H9, and Intani), (b) the dosage of Sulfomag Plus can be
alternative source of P beside SP-36. The dosage of Sulfomag Plus of 200 kg ha-1 , and (c) the
application of P fertilizer did not depend on the varieties of paddy.
